How To Change Your Computer Name


If you have Vista already installed and you didn't configured the computer name during the installation, then you probably have a generated computer name like this: WIN-56FTP76PC. This name usually doesn't easy to remember and it's hard to use. Besides this the initial workgroup is also not good for you. Fortunatelly it is quite easy to update these settings.

Note: Don't forget that changing the computer name will require to restart your computer

1.Open System by clicking the Start button clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.

2.Under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, click Change settings If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3.On the Computer Name tab, click Change.

4.Under Computer name, delete the old computer name, type a new computer name, and then click OK. If your computer is part of a domain, you will be prompted to provide the name and password of an account with permission to rename the computer in the domain.
